When i take UIR as my CDS, i wonder what i will be learning. Using the Internet as a Resource Tool. Obviously, the INTERNET! haha. i really thought this CDS going to be boring. BUT! i found out that it was fun! During the very first lab, i still remember, my facilitator, Ms Farida loves to joke with us. She makes the class more enjoyable to study. i guess, this is the only subject in TP that is STRESS free. My favourite subject all time!

Throughout my UIR journey, i learnt quite alot of things. First, the search facilities. to be honest, i dont know about meta search engine. haha. I learnt how to evalute websites, doing wiki and using boolean operators in search engines. I gain more knowlege along the way. and lastly, BLOGGING! i learn more about blogging too! =)

Visiting talkingcock.com is rather humorous. I was laughing to myself. I guess this site provides entertainment and humour. I find it really fun while browsing through the site. Especially, for the singlish dictionary, which they called Coxford Singlish Dictionary.

How would i react to talkingcock.com if i were:

Singapore's Prime Minister
Honestly, i would be rather angry as they, Singaporeans themselves, mocking on their own country which reflects to Singaporeans moral. But however, as Singapore's Prime Minister, i can get to know Singaporeans well as they honestly voice up their opinions. therefore, i could know some of Singaporean's problem. =)

As for myself as a SINGAPOREAN, i will react...'WHOA, there are people who are brave enough to do this AH!' haha. i would never thought Singaporeans are humorous and blunt.

A Foreigner
I will react...'WOW, is Singaporean like this?' i may not expect that Singaporeans be like this. but the site is interesting to know more deeper about the REAL Singaporeans. haha.

Using wiki is a great way for e-learning. this is the second time i use wiki. previously,i used wikispaces.com. And now, wetpaint.com.

Both sites allows people to share ideas and discuss on different kind of topic. In addition, wiki can be used to form up an organisation or fan club. This helps people to raise their issues they want to address, give formative feedback and know more information on their favourite idol.

Through this activity, i realised it is easy to learn from each other online. Since we did different topics, i gain alot of knowledge reading each other's resource.

My Dream Holiday~

i always wanted to go overseas! haha. ok, my dream holiday would be going to New Zealand! i dont have much reasons why i want to go there, but my brother who went to New Zealand for student exchange progam said the trip was fun! haha. if i got the chance, i want to try this..





and i would like to visit Auckland!

for practical 4&5, i learnt how to use different type of search faculty and about the effectiveness of each search faculty. furthermore, i learnt to use common boolean operators like 'AND', 'OR' to search for information.

Questions in practical 4&5:

Compare the search results. Identify 2 characteristic that make all 3 search facilities similar or different from one another.
The difference between all 3 search facilities is the number of hits. Using the same keywords, the search engine, msn.com has the most number of hits. whereas, metacrawler.com has 71 and Yahoo! Directory has 4 directory. from my point of view, search engine is the most powerful. Other than the number of hits, the result ranking is different from the 3 search facilities. i can say that search engine has the most relevant result than the other 2.

Do you find any strength/weakness of each of them, in terms of search capabilities?
yes. i find weakness in metacrawler.com, where in the results, they even include an advertisement from Google, which i find not that relevant.

Overall, which search facility best meet your searching needs? Why?
The search engine, msn.com. i found out that it gives me more relevant results than the other search facilities. Hence, it will help me best in my searching needs.

to be honest, regarding about my discussion topic, i dont know what is RSS or podcasting. even though i heard and saw alot of times in the websites or radio, i dont even bother to know what is RSS. so i choose this topic to know more about RSS or podcasting. thanks UIR. if not, i will be outdated. haha.
